I haven’t had a dog of my own in a long time, but recently I’ve been looking through the old photo albums. I found a picture of my mom’s old dog, Onyx, from before I was born.

I intended on making a serious portrait Onyx but half way through inking her face I accidentally dragged my pen across the page. Smart me, Huhh. After reciting a couple of choice words that shouldn’t be repeated I added the hat. Then the scarf. It worked and Mom seemed to like it but I still want to do a more serious portrait of Onyx.

This piece was done in traditional pan and ink on a piece of 11 by 14 Bristol paper, and I must say black fur is a blast in ink.
