Well this should be self explanatory. Its a pixy surrounded by lady bugs. *Puts on the sarcasm hat* and, for those of you who have been watching my work for a while, I refuse to admit that I have a thing for characters with dragonfly wings surrounded by little, red, pokadotted bugs. Even if they are really, really cute.
This happens to be the result of my saying that I was going to sit down half an hour each night and pick up a pencil. Those half an hours turned into about 4 to 8 hours (The entire picture probably took about 25 hours total) a night and as a result Im very tired.
Im proud of myself with this image, as I really havent done much with children or child faces compaired to how much I draw my other fantasy creatures and horses, but there are still things that bug me about it and probably will bug me about it. The eyes bug me, and in my attempts to make them better, I made the iris of both too big. Plus I could sit and scrutinize over the wings. I just got to the point where I was fussing over it and making little things that bugged me worst. So Im stepping away from it for a while and hopefully, in posting it here, will get some helpful advice.
For my own reasons, this picture was not created with ink. I will always love ink but I feel like Ive started using it as a crutch. The paper is smooth Bristol paper and the colored pencils were prismacolored pencils.
Enjoy.
Special thanks to my fiance, for helping me decide what colors would work where and getting the child like face shaped right and sitting there with me while I must have been driving you completely nuts..
Awesomeness. I have wondered if you would try out drawing humans again as your self portrait was really god so the child in its self coincides well. And yes, the colours look very identical when referring with realism within the child also x] And as always I love your blending and the detail and effort you obviously show within your work, so much appreciated for doing such. I think you have actually captured the child pretty well aswell, even if I do keep concentrating on her such. You'll certainly come up to your brilliant standard with children if you keep it up as you have done with your fantasy creatures ^.^
It's so nice to hear from you again and thank you very much. It's funny that you mention my self portrait because the first 15 or 20 minutes into this picture I was referencing a picture from when I was about 4 or 5 years old to make sure I was getting the angles right. My goal is to have some children drawings done well enough to put in my portfolio and replace some of the other older artwork that is fantacy. It was my new years resolution. That and to just plane get better and drawing children and people.
